Although their conscience was not completely vanished, they still abandoned themselves. In this film, using drugs became the life style of its characters because it was the only choice left when they didnrsquo;t have any other choice at all, which led them to addiction and painfulness. Fellows of Renton stood on a side of the railway at a silent night and loudly said: ldquo;Scotland, Scotland, the ugliest place in this world.rdquo; When he said these words, others just laughed at him. This was exactly what these post-modern ldquo;Angry Youthsrdquo; looked like. They banished themselves in the nightmarish life, and they no longer established any kind of spiritual father.
The film became a classic among all alternative films due to its calm, satirical and metaphorical depiction, its real narrative attitude, its black humor running through the whole movie, and its modern processing on sound and picture. It also drew great attention and caused furious controversy because of the value concept and self-consciousness it represented. You could see shadow of this film in other alternative films released later. No wonder some people said: ldquo;Five minutes of lsquo;Trainspottingrsquo; is more splendid than the entire lsquo;Nowherersquo; (another alternative film from U.S.).rdquo;
Mark and a bunch of his scoundrels chose to be drug abuser. They lived the most depraved life in the dirtiest corner. They used drugs, drank alcohols, committed robberies, and made sexual intercourse. These were the plots showed up from the beginning to the end of the film. However, these were also the reasons why this film was treated as a controversial movie for all these years. Some of audiences were mesmerized by it, while others hated it so much. Obviously, the film adopted an anti-traditional shooting method to highlight its rebellious spirit. It brought out the question on how youths should choose their life style in a very extreme way.
